Well, I took it to the shop, changed out the fittings, and the moment the vacuum pump was hooked up, the compressor made a "fsssssssssst" noise. It leaks....like a sieve.

Bottom line is, the system is 16 years old, and will need a compressor at minimum to function correctly. I'm going ot go to the junkyard one day, and purchase another compressor, however, if that one leaves, screw it. I cannot justify buying a $300.00 A/C compressor, only to have to deal with other issues.
